Pandemonium As Three Persons Killed, Monarch’s Vehicles Set Ablaze In Ekiti Over Ogun Festival


About three people were killed on monday as a result of straight bullets while several others were wounded after irate youths attacked the palace of Onire of Ire Ekiti in Oye Local Government Area of Ekiti State, Oba Bobade Adeleke. 

The security operatives came to the Community inorder to prevent them from holding Ogun Festival due to COVID-19.

It was learnt that the traditional ruler and his council had earlier passed a resolution that the 2020 Ogun Festival in the town won't be celebrated elaborately because of COVID-19 and adherence to its protocols and guidelines stipulated by the State government.

It was further gathered that this resolution didn’t go down with his subjects especially the youths, who subsequently attacked the palace and chased out the monarch.

The vehicles belonging to the traditional ruler were also set ablaze during the incident. 

In the meantime, one of the prominient Sons of the Community and a former member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Bimbo Daramola has called for calm in the area.

Hon. Daramola described the development as unfortunate and expressed sympathy with the families of the Victims of the Crisis.
