Fatoba, Giving A New Definition To Representation

By Wasiu Owolewa, Ado-Ekiti

I will begin this my piece by taking a look at an act of representation in a political context.

Representation can be said to be an activity of making citizenship present in public policy making processes whenever political actors act in the best interest of the citizens.

According to the above definition, someone can be said to be representing when he or she acts in the best interest of his or her people that entrusted him or her with their mandate.

It is an indisputable fact that some politicians see the opportunity given them by their people today to represent them as a way of satisfying theirs selfish interest, jettisoning the main purpose of what they were being  elected for.

As we have some bad representatives so also we have some good representatives. Among the good ones is a sitting Reps member representing Ekiti Central Federal Constituency 1 at the Nigerian parliament in person of Hon. Olusola Steve Fatoba(MHR).

Hon. Olusola Steve Fatoba has with his outstanding performance in the last one year as Reps member justified the massive votes given to him by his constituents as someone worthy to be assigned with the onerous task of representing them at the green chamber.

Immediately after inauguration as Reps member, Hon. Fatoba decided to toe a different path by embarking  on physical capital projects and programs that will add more value to the life of his constituents.

He chose this path to complement the effort of his Boss, His Excellency, Dr John Kayode Fayemi towards the development of his constituency.

He began with free holiday coaching program for potential SS3 students in his constituency. Distribution of chemicals, fertilizers, farming equipments to farmers to boost agricultural production in his constituency.

Sponsoring and empowering  constituents on agriculture and other acquisition skills such as fashion designing, photography, GSM repairing, ICT, and others.

Hon. Fatoba has also facilitated laudable projects to his constituency which some are still ongoing such as solar streetlights, roads, health centres, construction of  block of classrooms in ten secondary  schools in Ado, Irepodun/Ifelodun, ICT centres in some schools in his constituency.

He has also embarked on completion of some abandoned projects such as the town hall at Igede-Ekiti, Biotech resource centre and so on.

Besides, Hon. Fatoba has also given out grants to his constituents who are engaged in one small scale business or the other to further boost their businesses.

And very soon, he will embark on distribution of instructional materials, school uniforms to some selected schools in his constituency.

To change the story of "I support the motion" representative, he has made active contributions on the floor of the green chamber with moving of motions such as motion on reduction of lending rate of commercial banks, investigation into activities of port users at Apapa port, Lagos and others.

With this laudable feat by Hon. Olusola Fatoba within a space of a year, one will be convinced that there are still some good politicians who value their words.

Hon. Fatoba has with his outstanding
performance given a new definition to representation. He has made us to know that representation is not about amazing wealth to satisfy someone's selfish interest but to bring  dividend of democracy to the door step of the people.

It is without doubt that the people of
Ado, Irepodun/Ifelodun have been feeling more impact of representation than we used to have it before.

We should be very appreciative to His Excellency, Dr. John Kayode Fayemi for giving us credible person  like Hon. Fatoba to represent us at the National Assembly.

The wind of positive change has been blowing and we have had a sigh of relief with MHR Fatoba as our representative.

As Hon. Fatoba continue to represent us at the green chamber, may God Almighty continue to be with him.
